Michał Nowakowski

Michał Nowakowski is an attorney-at-law and a counsel in the technology department of Rymarz Zdort Maruta and a member of the Financial Technologies & Regulations team.

Experience and academic work:

He specialises in the area of technology solutions for the financial sector, payment services and AML, artificial intelligence and IT. His academic interests include digital finance, bank secrecy and data sharing.

He has been involved in numerous implementations of technological solutions for the financial sector and has also advised in the area of the implementation of new regulations. Michał is an expert of the AILAWTECH and FinTech Poland foundations and cooperates with the CYBER SCIENCE Silesian Centre for Legal Engineering, Technology and Digital Competence. In his professional career, he has cooperated with, among others, Bank Handlowy, where he supported the R&D and other departments. He worked at the National Bank of Poland, the Office of the Polish Financial Supervision Authority and the Bank Guarantee Fund, and completed internships at the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

He is the author of the book “Fintech. Technology, Finance, Regulation. A Practical Guide for the Financial Innovation Sector”, which received the prestigious eDucat award for best academic paper in 2021. He is also the scientific editor of the commentary to the Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Act.

He was an external expert in the completed EBRD and European Commission project on the creation of a legal and regulatory framework for financial innovation in Poland, as well as the leader of a working group on artificial intelligence in the financial sector at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, and is currently a vice-leader of a group on law and ethics, and coordinates the accountability group . He is a lecturer at postgraduate programmes, including the Warsaw University of Technology and the SGH Warsaw School of Economics, as well as the SWPS University of Social Sciences and Humanities, in the areas of artificial intelligence and machine learning and #fintech. Michał has authored numerous scientific publications and given speeches at conferences and workshops/training courses, in particular, on issues of artificial intelligence, ethics and digital currencies of central banks and crypto-assets.
