Jakub Szewczak is an advocate and a senior associate in the dispute resolution department of Rymarz Zdort Maruta.
Experience and education:
Jakub specialises in civil and commercial disputes as well as criminal law matters. Jakub advises companies from various sectors, including energy, oil & gas, real estate, banking, financial services and game development.
He has advised on multiple civil law, commercial and regulatory disputes and has participated in court proceedings concerning environmental protection law. His experience in this regard includes post-M&A disputes regarding claims based on representations and warranties and on earn-out clauses, as well as corporate disputes involving resolutions of meetings of the shareholders and related to the liability of members of the governing bodies of commercial companies. Jakub also has experience in climate change litigation. He has represented clients before public courts as well as in domestic and international arbitration proceedings (including the Court of Arbitration at the Polish Chamber of Commerce ICC and SCC arbitrations).
His experience in criminal proceedings includes advising in connection with high-profile criminal matters, in which he has represented both the injured parties and defended those suspected of as well as already charged with wrongdoing. He has advised on criminal proceedings in relation to: actions taken to the detriment of companies, fraud (including securities fraud), bribery and the disclosure of classified information.
Additionally, Jakub has experience in assisting entities with the introduction of internal compliance procedures aimed at reducing the risk of criminal liability by identifying instances of bribery, corruption and money laundering.
He graduated with distinction from the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw in 2019 and completed a course in American law organised by the Center for American Law Studies at the University of Warsaw in cooperation with Emory University and Georgia State University in 2019. He qualified as an advocate in 2023.
